Let's, uh... play?

Since 2009, I've been doing the whole gaming playthrough thing just to keep not only myself and others entertained (especially it being my senior year in high school at the time.) There were a decent amount of people who were into the whole "let's play" thing and that's fine.

At the time, no one could make money off of doing an LP (god I really hate calling it that) unless you were either sponsored by some company or if you already had a channel with over a million views and decided to make a "gaming channel" and get that partnered as well.

Those who did it and weren't partners just did it to bring shits and giggles to the community on Youtube.

There are several types of these "Let's Plays" that we would all stumble upon then and even to this time. I will be describing each one in separate posts to avoid walls of texts.

Blind Let's Plays

There's the common "Blind" playthrough or "Day One Let's Plays," where people would stumble through a game with no prior knowledge as to how to do things. You mostly see this with survival horror games, because watching someone scream their tits off to a cheap jumpscare or watching said person getting chased by some guy who is hell bent on ripping your nuts off while humming "Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star" and hearing their raw reaction is entertainment. And it is if it's not overdone.

I will admit that there is also a certain comfort to these blind playthroughs when it comes to survival horror and I'll explain. When I was little, let's say around 4 or 5 years old, I was exposed to a bunch of scary shit that's to my older brothers. Growing up, I would play "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" for the N64. I'd spend hours playing it and at some point, my brother would sit by my side, making me read the dialogue (thus improving my reading skills by the end of the first grade.)

Now, back to my point. I would play it.. up until I hit the shadow temple. The graveyard alone during adult Link's time I would avoid like the plague because of this strong fear I had of ghosts and those Poe's were no different. There was something about the shadow temple that would unnerve me greatly as a child. The dark dreary environment, the chilling ambient music, and the overall feel of death and possibly worse is what instilled fear into me.

Around this point is where I would ask my second eldest brother to play through the temple for me. I watched him play it a number of times and it was comforting for me knowing that my brother is going through the "scary temple" and not me lol. Eventually, when I got older, I got over my childhood fear of the temple and breezed through it like it was nothing.

But you the point in my story. It's fun to be afraid, but it's even more fun to be afraid with another person, whether it's from playing a game together with someone or watching a video online.

However, because it's a blind playthrough, they player is bound to stumble along the way, especially when there are puzzles involved. They could either A) figure it out right of the bat and go about their merry way or B) be completely dumbfounded by the puzzle and end up running around the room looking for clues or just keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for different results. Now, the later won't be so bad depending on the player, but there has been instances where a certain player whom I won't name would spend several parts (10-15 minutes each) running around trying to figure out what to do until finally, the puzzle is done.

So yeah... there's the pros and cons to that little segment.

New Semester Soon

Yep. It's just around the corner too. I start on the 25th of August.

Kinda weird how it felt like time is going by much slower in Hawaii than it did in California. But you know what they say when you're having fun... guh.

Thumb Nails For YouTube That I Made And Used

I made these thumbnails for the use of my YouTube play-throughs. None of the characters relating to their respected games do not belong to me nor do I have ownership of them. Only character that I can say that belongs to me is myself :)

Home Sweet Home..

This past two months I've been in California visiting my boyfriend. Dem long distance relationships huh?

Anyways, I just got last night. All I can say is going there to see him is always the exciting part that fills me with joy but leaving and parting ways with him just leaves me somber during the entire trip. Both feelings I can never get used to until the day perhaps we move in together and we don't have to worry about whether or not we'll be able to see each other face to face. But until we both finish our education, get well paying jobs, and save enough money to do so, that dream is pretty far from accomplishing.

Ah well, at least we can fall back to the old habits of talking on Skype and messing with whatever game we feel like playing on steam.

Brush Yo Teeth

When I was a child, I wasn't brought up with the habit of making sure I brushed my teeth every morning and night. Because of that, as I grew up, I began developing one cavity after another, thus having to visit the dentist for a filling multiple tines, aside from the occasional cleaning.

When I was 20, I had no dental coverage and had to be super conscious of the state of my teeth, especially since that a few holes with decay in them were already forming due to neglect on my part. It was especially important that I took good care of my teeth since I was working a graveyard shift that required the occasional snack or two just to keep my energy up and to make the late nights more bearable.

Well... Old habits sure do due hard, don't they?

Now here I am, 21 years old and I can honestly say that i have had to visit the dentists office 10 times already this year and half of 2014 isn't even finished. I have had 3 wisdom teeth pulled, 1 root canal, 1 tooth filling, 2 crowns made and I'm about to get my third crown in May, and also in May, I'm going to get another took extracted just because it doesn't have an opposing tooth under it and I don't want a tooth implant.

And all that work, except the wisdom tooth extractions, is just the work done on the top row. They've just begun work on the bottom jaw with my third crown.

Speaking of crowns, they're really expensive xD. Even with dental coverage,  I had to pay about $250 for my last two crowns each, not included the appointment fee. But recently they bumped up the price, so with my third crown, I had to fork over $300 plus he office fee. So glad a bit of my tax return came in lol.

I'm just glad to be having all this work done now. Who knows what state my teeth would have been in the long run if I didn't. But this ordeal has made me more conscious of the state of my teeth and I'm starting to pick up the habit of brushing them more often.

So, lesson here is to pick up that toothbrush as often as you can. Your teeth AND your wallet will thank you in the long run.

Wisdom Teeth Removed And The Recovery Process So Far

So on the 11th of February, I had the remainder of my wisdom teeth removed (I had only one removed back in the 11th grade if I recall.)

The process of it was simple. Aside from the 4 syringes worth of numbing injected into my mouth, getting the teeth removed was rather quick.

It seems however that the recovery stage of it is the hardest, at least from what I've experienced these past few days.

So my dad and I left the clinic with a few prescriptions for my pain killers and antibiotics, a stack of gauze to help with the bleeding, a syringe to irrigate the empty cavities after meals, and a guide for recovery. With only a few hours left before the numbing wore off, we headed straight for the pharmacy located at the back of a super market. After getting my medicine along with my food supply consisting of cream of mushroom soup, some lactaid, and a 28 oz. tub of strawberry haggen-dazs, we headed straight home.

Now, I've done everything that the recovery guide had told me to do. I've been eating soft foods and avoided taking my medicine on an empty stomach. The pain was tolerable up until last night on the 12th. I was talking to my boyfriend on skype and he has just gone to bed. After taking my medication, suddenly the pain in my mouth was throbbing. It brought me to the point of tears several times.

The pain would go from my jaw, to the entire left side of my head, affecting my left ear as well. I didn't really get any sleep until maybe 4 in the morning when I was able to take my pain medication without any sort of risk. Then the pain just went poof! and I was able to sleep. Right before I took my pain killers, I had gotten up several times to try and remedy the pain. I tried holding as ice pack against the affected area but it felt like it was only amplifying the pain even more. Then I tried applying some of my tooth ache medicine on some of the teeth that were on the same side and it did help for a bit before it came crawling back with revenge.

So I had figured that I probably have a dry socket after much research on the internet. I've decided to try out some of the home remedies that I read up on, and so far I tried diluting a few drops of the clove oil that I have for my tooth aches with water and using the syringe I was given to irrigate the cavity with it. It was affected for a while but the pain came back within the hour. I'm guessing it was because the oil was diluted that it wasn't very effective.

So after I'm done typing this, I'm gonna go into the bathroom again and try dabbing the oil onto one of the cotton balls that it was provided with and I'm gonna apply it directly onto the dry socket and for a while and see if it's effective or not. It's gonna burn and taste horrible but I guess that's the cost of having the pain go away. I know dry sockets don't have any long lasting effects and heals within the week but the pain that it comes with is just something I need taken care of pronto. I do NOT want to have to deal with that pain during my "relaxing" recovery period.
